Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple is a Hindu shrine devoted to the Hindu god Hanuman in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh , India. The temple was founded in the early 16th century by the renowned Hindu preacher and poet Sri Goswami Tulsidas, and is located on the banks of the river Assi. The deity was named "Sankat Mochan" meaning the "reliever from troubles" In the temple, offerings are sold to Lord Hanuman (called Prasad) like the special sweet "besan ke ladoo" that the devotees enjoy; the idol is also covered with an enjoyable marigold flower garland. This temple is unique in having Lord Hanuman face his Lord, Rama, whom he worshiped.Thousands of Rama and Hanuman devotees still attend the temple, chanting Hanuman Chalisa and Sundarkand (also provided in the form of a booklet in the temple for free). Following the 2006 terrorist incident, a permanent police post was established inside the temple. Many astrologers claim that worshiping Hanuman will neutralize the Mangal (Mars) ill-effect and nearly every planet that has an ill impact on human existence.
