There are nine temples dedicated to the nine forms of Maa Durga. The temple of Patal Devi is one of them. This temple is in village Shail, five-six kilometers away from Almora. There were once four natural sources of water around this -year-old temple. There is also a big pool under the temple which is called Gauri Kund. At one time this pool was filled with water. Today it is dry.Patal Devi Temple was built by a brave soldier Sumer officer during the reign of Chand dynasty king Deep Chand (-). Later on this temple was destroyed.
